Discussion: Pros and Cons of organic food by Yahoo

Yahoo posted an article discussing the pros and cons of organic products, and it is an informative read for all vegetarians as it does cover some of the reasons that make one change their diet patterns. Have a read here if you're curious, also a good idea to run through it before reading the following discussion if you're interested :)

According to Yahoo, some of the pros of buying organic products are:
Friendlier to animal and environment, reduces risk of heart diseases and also contains reduced content of chemicals.

And in the same article, some of the listed cons of buying organic products:
It has a shorter shelf-life, more expensive, not necessarily more healthy and still contains traces of chemicals

What works in our Garden:
At Jelina Garden, we believe in balancing things. Thus, we carefully select the items which we choose to go organic. A selection of greens, most of the seasoning and packed items are usually organic options. Reason why we do not want to have every green an organic select is to help balance costings, we would still want our customers to pay a reasonable price for food which is not possible with the cost of organic counterparts.

But for certain parts, we do believe in going organic. Seasoning and packed items especially, we would try to use them and still remain cost effective. Seasoning and packed items are usually processed using chemicals to give it a longer shelf life. As we would use the seasoning extensively for cooking, there is no problem for us to use organic products as we exhaust them quicker than a normal-size household.

And even if we are not a full-fledge organic restaurant, our beliefs and missions are the same as organic benefits. Jelina Garden starts out as a vegetarian restaurant with the motto on kindness "Be kind to yourself, Be kind to the world, Be kind to animals". (Our mission) A vegetarian does plenty of good to yourself, the world and animals. And we also pro-actively find new measures to improve the quality of eating. Even in our kitchen, we carefully select our knives, cooking pan and water sources to keep the greens fresh and nutritious. (Our kitchen).

How do you keep things going at your kitchen? Would you like to learn how to eat healthy at home too, then check out our courses here. Also be looking forward to our upcoming refreshed menu with additions to spice up your diet! Watch our space kind folks, and let us strive for an improved diet everyday!

How we are vegan certified?

Among the many vegetarians out there, there are a group of people who believe in 'veganism'. And to quote ABOUT.COM, veganism refers to 'a type of vegetarian diet that excludes meat, eggs, dairy products, and all other animal-derived products, such as refined white sugar and wines'

If you follow this trend of diet, then you are whom we refer to as 'vegans' and your diet consist mostly of grains, beans, vegetables and fruits and all other natural sources of greens. No matter your reasons for committing to this belief, the folks at Jelina respect your decision and in fact will serve vegan-friendly meals.

Do check out our menu if you're still feeling unsure of what we serve at our diner, or explore or concept pillars to find out why and how we're doing so.

Ranging from Whole grain herbal soups, variations of noodles and rice with creative mixes of greens and yummies, and our nutritional premium pots - we're certain you'd find something that within our most important motto - yummy and healthy food does exist.

At Jelina, we have faith that being kind brings on a better world.

This the season to be slim!

The festive seasons are upon us! Every year during this time I become overly conscious about the way jeans tighten a little more than usual. Yet, with the merry seasons one after another, it's going to be an uphill battle trying to stow away that little "waist-pouch".

Perhaps my mother is always one step ahead, for this woman is always lithe and skinny, she must have a trick or two up her sleeves. Therefore, behold - the alternative to the lard-filled Lunar New Year dishes!

What is good : Sauces of Yu Sheng are often max on sugar and they are bound to add a few pounds to your little waist - which is why we use the alternative of sweet and sour plum sauce and natural oil for seasoning. Let them break away the fat and make the best appetizer before your hearty meals!

"Pen Cai" in Chinese stands for a big plate of everything, really. Look at the number of ingredients on this really small bowl - it's luxurious! Yet every ingredient is healthy and nutritious, a good mix of vegetables, shrooms and konjac will delight your taste palette.
This may just be my favourite out of the lot - and the one I deem most interesting. The Chinese are crazy about shark fins, while I'm not. I'm more crazy for the cute sharks out there to balance our delicate eco-system. So her invention of this vegetarian alternative is simply excellent!
A colorful plate with 4 sides to excite your taste buds - there is something peppery, something sweet, something rich in flavour and something crunchy. Go ahead, try each and every of them and try and determine which of the above you have just tasted
To find out more about the dishes and uncover their nutritional content, hop over to our site or Facebook. Or you can drop us a call at 64633962 for more information about our latest events!
